Get Started and the Way Back

The Good News is pretty straight forward.

No One’s Perfect But God is

The Book of Romans is a great place to start.

The Bible puts it like this in the Book of Romans 3:23-26 (New King James Version)

23: For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
24: being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,
25: whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed,
26: to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

All Have Sinned (Ps. 14:1–3)

God, speaking through David in Psalm 14:1-3, described what He sees in humanity from His perspective, and its not pretty:

1: The fool has said in his heart,
“There is no God.”
They are corrupt,
They have done abominable works,
There is none who does good.
2: The LORD looks down from heaven upon the children of men,
To see if there are any who understand, who seek God.
3: They have all turned aside,
They have together become corrupt;
There is none who does good,
No, not one.

So in God’s estimation, we ALL need help.

But why did Jesus have to die? How does that affect me?
If this world just randomly came to be, then there would be no one to answer to. This world does have a creator who made the rules. Some of the rules are obvious, like laws of nature. Others are a bit more obscure because we are generally not paying attention.
Here’s one:
The wages of sin is death.

(Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.)
This is found in God’s Word and describes a spiritual law that starts off in the spirit world and affects the natural world.
This is described in the Fall of Adam and Eve in the book of Genesis. They sinned and died a natural death a long time after they died a spiritual death. Spiritual death is separation from God because darkness and light don’t mix (hence they were chased from the Garden after they sinned and the way back was closed to them, with an angel and a sword guarding the way back).
So if I don’t know God, I’m in darkness and I need to come to the light. Even if I want to draw near, I can’t because I’m a hot mess and won’t last a millisecond in the presence of a perfectly awesome God. I’ve got sin all over me. Even if I had just one sin on me, the rules remain the same: The wages of sin is death.
So Jesus did the unimaginable. He left His perfect existence to give me a chance. He paid my debt by dying for me. He did this way before I could even ask for help. The best part is, because He was and is and will always be absolutely perfect, in exchange, He gave me the right to become a child of God again, to access everything that was lost in the Garden of Eden.
That’s why Jesus is important. That is why His Blood is so precious, because without it, there would be no way back. That’s why His Name is so important, because I can call upon it and be saved.
(Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved).

The Way Back

If you know you’re not perfect, and you’d like to get to know someone who is, who loved you before the world was made, then get to know Jesus.
If you want to do better and you know in your heart of hearts that you can’t promise anything in your own strength, then get to know Jesus, just as you are. He’ll take it from there.

He’s waiting on the other side of this prayer:

It’s basically the one I prayed years ago… after going to a christian school for five years, I felt like I knew a lot about Him, but I had no clue who He really was in my heart! I’m grateful to all those who planted the seed of faith in my heart and watered it until I knew how to have a relationship with Him myself.

I hope your life prospers even as your soul prospers!

Congratulations on making it home.
